 Summer's Here: Don't Twitter Your Vacation Away!
Twitter - Facebook - MySpace - plus many others, are all popular "social networking" sites where people can share information about themselves, meet other "friends", and stay in touch. For the most part, these sites are fun, harmless, and even informative.
But, it's a good idea to remember that it might not just be your friends who are tracking your activities online.
These sites are free to join, and you can follow just about anyone - so please be careful in NOT POSTING that the entire family will be at the beach for the first two weeks of August.
It is NOT difficult to find out a home address - and announcing that your home will be empty is an invitation to the dark side to make a visit and borrow a few things...
Seems like common sense - but please remind EVERYONE in the family who posts online to discuss their vacation AFTER the fact, not before.
 Is It A Hoax, Scam, or Rumor???
Just got a new email in, purportedly from Microsoft, regarding "Install Update for Microsoft Outlook".
Kinda looks like it came from Microsoft - but to no one's surprise - it didn't.
If you click on the link you'll download a worm that will infect your computer.
This is all too common on email - companies posing as Microsoft and just about anyone else.
Obviously - ignore it - only download Microsoft updates with your automatic features installed in Windows.
But every once in a while - you'll get an email that really looks genuine - so what do you do???
Tune in to www.snopes.com
Just type whatever you're looking for into the search bar - and you'll get the straight scoop on rumors, hoaxes, and scams.
In any case... you probably won't get a free laptop for forwarding an email - but whoever you forward it to will get lots more spam! When in doubt - check snopes.com and it's a good rule of thumb to NEVER click on an attachment or link unless you know exactly who sent it.
WCC Helps Raise $ 600 For Art & Science
During Celebrate West Hartford - WCC donated a bunch of T-Shirts and paint materials to the Solomon Schecter Day School PTO program.
Folks attending the event could either purchase a tie-dyed T-Shirt or "Made Their Own" (which was a great hit).
All of the proceeds will be used as part of an enrichment program for students in the Arts and Sciences.
A warm thank-you to all who attended and participated!
