September / October, 2008How Much Is Your Computer Worth?
How Much Is Your Computer Worth?

Please take a minute to figure out how much your current computer is worth...

The answers will range from "not much" for older systems to "quite a bit" for the latest and greatest laptops and networks.
Keeping in mind that used computers don't really sell for much, hold that $ figure in your mind for a second...

Now imagine that tomorrow morning you turn on your computer and nothing happens.

Nothing.  Just a black screen.

Your hard drive has failed, and ALL of the information on it is also gone.   Forever.
All of the programs.  All of the files.  All of the photos, songs, and videos.  Gone.

Now please ask yourself, "How Much Would I Pay To Get It All Back?"

THAT amount is how much your computer is worth.

Backing up your computer means you'll probably never have to face a hard drive failure.

And compared to what you'd pay to "get it all back", very, very reasonable.

Computer Hard Drives are delicate, mechanical devices that will fail. Why Hard Drives Fail!

Hard drives store all of the information, programs, and files on a computer.  These are delicate, mechanical devices.  Like all mechanical devices, the question is not "IF" but "WHEN" the hard drive will fail.

Sometimes other parts of your computer may fail, but leave the hard drive information intact, and the info can be retrieved.

But when the hard drive fails, and it's fairly common, the information is erased.  Totally.

Power surges, improperly shutting down the computer, mechanical fatigue, vibration, heat, and shock (dropping a laptop, desktop falling over) all will do the trick.
And when it happens to your computer, you lose all of the information.

And that was worth how much?  Did anyone mention some of those photos or files might be "priceless"?

Take a look at how easy (and inexpensive) it is to back up your computer.

How To Back Up Your ComputerSeagate Desk Top Back Up
We recommend two options to save your information.  One is a separate "external" Hard Drive which duplicates the info on your hard drive.  It's small and very easy to use.  It lives in your home or office, however, so a fire or other rare catastrophe might cause you to lose your data.

An external Hard Drive works exactly like the hard drive in your laptop or computer. It stores all of your important files, documents, and programs on your laptop or desktop. WCC recommends and installs Western Digital and Seagate hard drives as we’ve found them to be very dependable. The external hard drive connects to your computer easily via a cable.

Plus you'll need some SOFTWARE to automatically set up the time and frequency that you'd like your computer to back up all of your files.

We recommend Genie Backup Manager for the software.

The Second Option, a bit more expensive, is to use an online service to back up your information.  This is absolutely recommended for business owners (and people who work out of their home), as well as folks with large amounts of sensitive information.

How much does it cost to save all of your valuable (and invaluable) computer files?
